A garden to encourage birds and insects

My client was passionate about having a garden to encourage the birds and insects. She wanted to enjoy seeing the birds from her back garden window. She also loved a country cottage style garden, packed with summer loving perennials.

The small back garden was originally overgrown with neglected perennials. I tidied up and retained the existing plants, which included Hellebores, ivy (birds LOVE this), anemones, roses, rhododendron, geraniums, lavender and sedums (seen in my ‘before’ pictures).

To encourage wildlife into your garden and for that cottage garden look, plants to consider that I used in the left border include;

  • Hollyhocks
  • Foxgloves (bee loving)
  • Love-in-a-mist (plant from seed)

In the right border;

  • Verbena bonariensis
  • Lupins
  • Delphiniums
